Welcome to
The Transitional Times
This is your new moon/solar eclipse update for August 2008. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to those you think would appreciate it. Your feedback is always welcome.
New Moon Technical Details
This new moon/solar eclipse is occurring on Friday, August 1st
at 6:13am EDT at 09 Leo 32’ (That’s 09 degrees Leo 32’). This corresponds to the first decan, which is Leo (Sun) and the Scorpio (Mars) dwad. Decanates are the ten-degree divisions and the dwads are the two-and-a-half degree divisions of the zodiac. These more technical details add flavor to the understanding of the lunation point. For those of you who know your charts more deeply, this eclipse point is involving 09 degrees 32’ of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) as well as 24 degrees 32’ of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). If you have any sensitive chart points or planets near those degree areas, they will be triggered by this lunation. For more specifics, contact me personally to schedule some consultation time. With the new moon/solar eclipse (powerful new beginning) occurring on Friday, August 1st, the first quarter (course correction) is on Friday, August 8th, the full moon/lunar eclipse (culmination) occurs on Saturday, August 16th, and the last quarter (review progress) is on Saturday, August 23rd, 2008. Next month’s lunation then happens on Saturday, August 30th, 2008. The Sabian symbol for this month is "Early morning dew". The keyword mentioned by Marc Edmund Jones in his book, "The Sabian Symbols in Astrology" is "Rejuvenation". He says, "When positive, the degree is a special talent for finding the better in every situation where a worse may threaten disaster, and when negative, procrastination and total insensibility to the real powers of selfhood."
The Element/Quality Balance
The Element/Quality balance in a chart indicates something of what could be termed the underlying ‘tide of affairs’. The Elemental balance of the planets this month comes out like this: Five planets in Fire signs, three planets in Earth, two planets in Air and one planet in Water signs. The Quality balance comes out as: Three planets in Cardinal signs, six planets in Fixed and four planets in Mutable signs. Well, this month we have a clear winner for the Quality/Element balance. It’s definitely the Fixed Fire sign (Leo). Treat yourself like royalty this month. Express your heart’s desire. Have lots of fun! Take a leadership roll in something. Give yourself permission to be the center of attention…and enjoy it. J
Leo
Leo is the Fixed Fire sign of the zodiac and has always been identified as a lion. Leo can be wonderful as a leader because they have such magnetic personalities and they can seem like they really know what they’re talking about. We must always remember that Leo is an actor and as such can be masterful in the theatrical arts. Being naturally warm-hearted and such dedicated romantics they can easily find themselves in difficulty regarding affairs of the heart because of dashed expectations unless they’re careful. Leo is also very prone to being ‘in love’ with being in love. The Sun is in its own sign here and so is said to ‘rule’ the sign of the lion. Technically, the Sun reaches its height in the middle (15 degrees) of the sign, which is called ‘the Throne of the Sun’. This occurs on or about August 6th or 7th each year.
As A Whole
As this eclipse occurs the entire eastern seaboard of the United States will have Leo rising in the eastern sky (so long as we’re using the ‘Tropical’ zodiac). With the Sun and Moon, Mercury and Venus all in Leo it suggests a great month for having some summer fun! Yes, it’s a time of change, and I know we all have some heavy collective issues we’re facing these days, but really folks…isn’t it time to just let go, just a little bit, and have some fun while the Sun shines? I think so and I suggest that we’d all be doing better with a bit of a break from all this turbulence. It can really clear the head to take a bit of personal fun time right now. Believe me, all the business and the collective issues (to say nothing about some of the intense personal issues that are going on!) will all be there when you get back from your ‘fun time’ off. J Whether or not you can/will take any time off this month, the key is to find some way to ‘clear your head’ in some way. Find a way to gain some perspective on your life. For some, it takes getting out of town for a few days. Going diving or swimming has served well in this way for me, as an example. Some people play sports or do yoga retreats to do the same thing. Whatever works for you. Do something to regenerate yourself and your energy level…you’ll need it this fall! We must also remember that this eclipse is occurring in the sign of Leo, which also rules the heart…both physical and non-physical. This may indicate that for some, romance may well be on the agenda. Summer love…ah, yes! How delightful! Whether or not new love is on your agenda, perhaps we would be well advised to deepen our self-love and our commitment to ourselves as well as to our truest hearts desire. Think about that…being truly committed to your ‘truest hearts desire’. I wonder, if you were REALLY committed to that, how long it would take for you to achieve it. An interesting thought, isn’t it? The really interesting thing is that the new moon/solar eclipse in Leo is a wonderful time to make that commitment. Do you know what your ‘truest hearts desire’ is? If not, you could always consult your friendly astrologer! J Here’s more on eclipses and this one in particular. Some may have read this part already.
Solar Eclipses
Solar eclipses are new moons. Lunar eclipses are full moons. Some have said that the difference between them astrologically is that the solar eclipse acts like an ‘invitation’, whereas a lunar eclipse acts like a ‘demand’. Solar eclipses are grouped into what’s called ‘Saros Cycles’. The word ‘Saros’ comes from the Greek and means ‘repetition’ or ‘to be repeated’. Each solar eclipse is part of a group of Saros series. Members of the same Saros series occur every 18.6 years. It takes about 1300 years to complete an entire Saros series of eclipses. The beginning of each Saros series is always at one of the poles and then, every 18.6 years works its way gradually toward the opposite pole of the earth. The beginning of each Saros series has a specific astrological chart associated with it and from that we can tell something about the entire series. From that understanding, placing the specific eclipse into a persons chart then provides a great deal more clarity on that eclipse. The total solar eclipse on August 1st, 2008 is from the Saros Series called "S.S. 10 South" and had its beginning on March 10th, 1179 at the South Pole. This series will end on April 13th, 2423 at the North Pole. Regarding this series, Bernadette Brady writes in her book, "The Eagle and the Lark" on page 323, "This Saros Series concerns itself with breaking out of a very negative situation where no hope can be seen to a more positive space containing many options. A worry that may have been affecting a person will suddenly clear. The solution is shown by the Cosmos and needs to be taken up without too much delay." This particular solar eclipse will occur at 09 Leo 32’ indicating that anyone with sensitive points in their charts at 09 degrees 32’ of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) or at 24 degrees 32’ of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) will be triggered by this eclipse. Please call me for consultation time if you think you’re one of these people. My thought is that it’s better to be prepared for these things. Just a word to the wise. J
Previous Incarnations = 06/30/54 @ 08Cancer10, 07/10/72 @ 18Cancer37,07/22/90 @ 29Cancer04Next Incarnation = 08/12/2026 @ 20Leo02 Sabian Symbol = 10Leo = The Sabian symbol for this month is "Early morning dew".
The End of a Cycle Approaches
Many people are having relationship issues through this time. We can see this astrologically by the positions of both Mars and Venus. These two have a two year dance with each other…in other words its about two years for Mars and Venus to go around the zodiac and come together again. The last time they conjuncted (came together in the sky) was on October 25th, 2006 and the next time will be on September 11th, 2008. What this means is that currently we are in the ‘dying’ phase of the last two year ‘relationship cycle’. It’s time to finish off old business, clear the decks, go see a psychologist or relationship counselor, astrologer, or your favorite psychic for some relationship advise just now! J You could also have a direct talk with your significant ‘Other’ about whatever may not be working for you…just expect that they too have probably wanted to have a talk with you as well! For some this time will be the ending of a relationship and, of course, that’s not always an easy thing to do. This may especially be so for those of you being more directly impacted by this eclipse…on top of the waning Venus/Mars cycle. As I mentioned earlier, this may well be a great time to do something to ‘clear your head’ in some more significant way. It helps to know that this too shall pass. Everything has its cycle in the physical plane. If something had a beginning, it will have a certain lifespan, and then it dies, only to be reborn again at some future time.
Cycles of Growth
Those of you born in October 1919, March 1920 or June/July 1920, August 1949 and September of 1978 are now experiencing your Saturn Return. Saturn returns to the position it was at your birth every 29.5 years. This is an important time of self-evaluation. Where have you come from and where are you heading? It’s time to review your life goals; this is a time of endings followed by new beginnings. Clean house on whatever level you need too. You're setting the tone for the next 7 years, so stay awake. Additionally, those of you born in January of 1949, January of 1961 and December of 1972 are experiencing your Jupiter return. Jupiter returns to the position it was at your birth every 12 years. This is the time when opportunity can come knocking, so be ready. This can be a time of expansion and growth, take advantage of it.
